Disciple déchu

A fallen disciple of an orthodox sect, raised by the dead Qi left in its body.

Overview

Once a disciple of an orthodox sect, it fell in battle. The dead Qi left in its body raised it again, with scraps of its old techniques. It staggers, but its guard comes back by reflex.

It walks up to you, waits in a half-forgotten guard about 3 blocks away, and steps in to strike about every two seconds. Every blow lands at a readable moment of its swing and can be guarded, parried or dodged.

In a crowd it stays simple: when two other disciples already fight the same prey close by, it only uses its single blow, so a fight against several stays readable.

Armed, it fights its weapon's way: a sword wakes its sect's fencing, an axe is all weight, and any tool is held like a staff. A weapon reaches half a block further and hits for the item's damage.

Moves

Stance

Half guard

It waits about 3 blocks off with one fist raised, then steps in close as its next move comes.

Move 1

Clumsy haymaker

A wide, slow swing for its full attack damage (3 on Normal). Reach about 2.4 blocks.

Move 2

Double blow

A quick jab then the haymaker, about 2 + 3 damage. Always used after two of its blows were blocked, otherwise 1 time in 4.

Move 3

Lunge

When you back away from 3 to 5.5 blocks off, it dives forward arms first for about 4 damage and a stronger push. At most once every 5 seconds.

Death

Death

It falls to its knees, then face down.

How to beat it

  1. Hold Guard (right click in combat mode) when it steps in: the haymaker is slow and easy to read.
  2. Raise your guard just as a blow comes: a parry costs no damage and makes it stagger, opening it to your combo.
  3. Do not back away in a straight line: that calls its lunge. Dodge sideways with Left Alt instead.
  4. If you block twice in a row, expect the double blow next.
